Meet the 2019
First Gen INSPIRE Planning Committee
Our organization is proud to have such talented, dedicated, and hardworking members on our planning committee for the first ever First Gen INSPIRE Conference in Southwest Fresno, CA.
We are made up of first generation students and allies who are working to put on an event to help INFORM, EMPOWER, and CONNECT families to post secondary resources. Almost 100% of our committee members are Edison Alumni which is greatly why we decided to have this years theme be "Dejando Nuestra Huella".
Evelyn Reyes
Event Coordinator
Evelyn is a rising sophomore at the University of Michigan who intends to major in Organizational
Studies and minor in Business. She's currently on a full-time
summer fellowship through
Fun Fact: I studied abroad in Barcelona this summer and got to see Messi play!
Karina Ortega
Chair of Marketing
Karina is a rising sophomore at Fresno State University majoring in Social Work with a minor in Spanish. She wants to inform and educate the Latino community to rise and create a strong future for themselves.
Fun Fact: I've been working for a photography company for almost 4 years now!
Alexis Garcia
Co-Chair of Marketing
Alexis is a second year Fresno State pre-nursing student aspiring to be a Critical-Care (ICU) travel nurse and later further her education at a Nurse Anesthesia Program. She was raised in a low-income household and wants to promote healthy lifestyles for everyone despite their SES.
Fun Fact: I'm a mommy to a 3-year-old stubborn, but priceless Husky named Lexy!
Lizbeth Guttierez
Community Engagement Coordinator
Lizbeth is a rising junior at California State University, Fresno. She is majoring in Public Health with a focus in Health Care Administration and minoring in Chicano Latino Studies. She identifies as first-generation undocumented Latina student that grew up in a single parent household.
Jocelyn Cohetero
Workshop Coordinator
Jocelyn is a first-generation Latina studying at Fresno State and majoring in Spanish. She's currently working for CA Teaching Fellows Foundation as an after school program tutor, in hopes of impacting and transforming the students' daily lives.
Fun Fact: I'm learning American Sign Language.
Fatima Gomez
Chair of Outreach
Fatima is currently a sophomore at Fresno State on a path to major in Liberal Studies blended program and minoring in Spanish. She aspires to be an inspiring Latina educator, while contributing to her community.
Fun Fact: I went to 5 different elementary schools in the valley!
Victor Munive
Resource Fair Liaison
Victor is currently a sophomore at Fresno City college, studying Civil Engineering. He hopes to work with PG&E one day, but for now Gb3 is where it's at!
Fun Fact: I love drawing fashion sketches in my free time, and hope to visit Milan or Paris during Fashion week.
Briana Pelayo
Committee Assistant
Briana is a sophomore at Fresno State University majoring in Civil Engineering with a minor in Math. She wants to be a change in the 15% of Hispanics who graduate with a Bachelor's Degree, and the 3% of Hispanic women who have STEM careers, while encouraging and helping other first-generation students.
Guadalupe Romero
Volunteer Coordinator
Guadalupe is currently a rising sophomore at California State University, Fresno. She is majoring in Biology as part of the Pre-Medical Path and minoring in Spanish. She's a first-generation Latina who wants to empower and help those who will also be first-generation students.
